MEET THE TEAM

SledHockey logo 1_edited.png

Hello, my name is Joshua. I was born with spina bifida and I'm in a wheelchair.  I joined the team about 10 years ago. I have volunteered at the Aquarium of the Pacific for 15 years. I also bowl in a league and play baseball. I like to play sled hockey because I get to meet new people and make new bonds.  On the ice I feel free because of the speed I can go.

Hello, I'm Paul. Struggling with a degenerative illness is hard. Sled hockey motivates me to get up every day and try to improve.

My name is Anthony, I am a 19 year old that is competitive, likes swimming, and playing video games (duh). I was born without my legs which made finding a sport difficult. Brody Roybal, on TikTok, was how I found Sled Hockey. Being a Vice Corps Commander in the AFJROTC ( Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) at West Covina High School taught me so much about leadership and how to work as a team. That is why I'm excited to have found the LA Kings Sled Hockey Organization. It gives me the opportunity to work with an amazing team and possibly help someone else in a similar situation as me.

Hey there, I'm Aaron. I'm the goalie on the team, and

I was born with a genetic condition similar to Cerebral Palsy. I joined the team about two years ago. I'm a student at Tahquitz High School, and I love to play video games. I love sled hockey because unlike other sports, it's a level playing field. I love the feeling of catching the puck in my glove, and my team cheering because I saved a goal. I hope to try out for the Paralympic team someday.

Hi, my name is Nicholas. I'm 23 years old. I have spina bifida at L3 and hydrocephalus. I'm also the founder of this team. I started looking into adaptive sports around 2009 because I was tired of sitting at home watching television while a lot of my friends and family members got to do all of the fun activities. I enjoy playing sled hockey because it is super competitive. I also like it because it keeps me active and healthy. Outside of sled hockey, I'm a film student at San Bernardino Valley College.

Hello my name is Jorel. I am 15 years old, this is my second season in hockey. I'm Angel. I'm 16 years old. I started playing Sled Hockey when I was 5 years old. Since I started at a very young age, I was very uninterested when I first started playing Sled Hockey. I was inspired to get better by one of my teammates because of the way he played. His name is Pedro. I wasn’t able to play with him during a game, but I hope I get a chance to play with him soon. It’s an incredible feeling to play Sled Hockey because I get to play the sport I love, and I can make friends. I like the competitiveness of playing. I like to push my teammates to get better. I don’t feel like I have disability when I play. I feel like any other person that plays the sport. I feel that I can play at competitive level. I was selected to go to the 2023 USA HOCKEY National Sled Hockey Development Camp in New Jersey. It was a great learning experience for me. I learned what I need to work on. The camp helped me improve on things I struggled in.

My name is Silverio. I was born with Spina Bifida, which affects my everyday. With Sled hockey I am able to forget about it for just a few moments at a time and involve myself to what it means to be apart of team and what it means to be a hockey player, making connections with other players and participants in the sport. Now that I’ve been in the team since 2012. I’ve had the privilege to participate in events that I could’ve only dreamed of when I wasn’t on the team. After many failed attempts at first, falling in my sled, it felt discouraging but I stuck with it and I’ve eventually become a solid player.

Hi! My name is Manny, and I was born with spina bifida at the L4-L5 level. I'm 37 years old now, and lived a pretty active life up until beginning work in 2010. I am finally at a point in my career and life where I can enjoy being involved in a team sport again. This is my first season ever of sled hockey and it feels great! I'm excited to be a part of the Kings and am training hard to become an asset to the team. I look forward to making new connections and memories on the ice with my teammates.

My name is Roger. I'm a 61 year old male who has a left above knee amputation due to Ewings sarcoma. I enjoy many activities including snow skiing, water skiing, pickleball and other outdoor activities. My favorite activity is sled hockey. Ever since joining it has provided a great opportunity to improve my well being.

What's up, I'm Ethan and I've got weakness in my legs caused by spasms but I love sports, physical activity, and fitness. This is my third full season of sled hockey so far and I'm having some of the most fun improving my game and playing with my team. I love the opportunity I get in sled hockey to compete and use my strengths in a way that doesn't happen all the time. I learn something new every practice about the game, myself, and the team. The community is amazing, everyone is there to have fun and build each other up. My two coaches are awesome, they understand the team so well and make the experience fun while making us better athletes. I have high expectations for myself and I'm setting the high goal of making the Paralympic team.
